Photography catalogue
Resilience(s), the catalogue
Time for a swim, a sail, a glance.
The shoreline sets the pace of this catalogue. Children step into the water, a boat passes, a sail fills. Pierre Gassin’s photographs hold these moments when bodies, sea and light meet. One scene may seem familiar; the next reveals another detail.
Images in conversation
In this square-format edition, the reading also takes place between photographs. A movement continues on the neighbouring page, a face answers a silhouette, a stretch of water leaves room to breathe. The double pages were composed as complete arrangements: bringing them together is part of the image. The reader preserves each composition intact, without separating its two halves or inserting a gap.
Being present in the world
Black and white brings out reflections, splashes, gestures and the texture of the boats. Joy emerges in a leap, a ball game or an encounter at water level. It sits alongside the marks of time, worn hulls and the habits of everyday island life. Resilience(s) draws its strength from this closeness: looking at what people continue to pass on and share.
